Teach Learners Critical Thinking and Creative Problem Solving Using Web-Tools
eLearning and most technology assisted learning are data dumps or glorified PowerPoint presentations. Even those we call as gamification and virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) solutions try to force learners to learn content - but not how to learn or think critically and creatively. The consequence of the lack of thinking in learning is that many workers are unable to deal with problems at work that require dealing with exceptions, deviations, uncertainties and rapid change of knowledge and skills. Most training stops in learning content. What is needed is for learners to "think critically."

Learning to Doing to Being: The Science Behind Lasting Transformation
American corporations today spend an estimated $160B annually on learning and development initiatives. Yet employees forget up to 75% of the material taught, meaning up to $120B of that investment is wasted. It’s no wonder that 70% of organizational transformations fail - organizational transformation starts with individual transformation. If we can’t nail the latter, we have no hope in achieving the former. This eBook will detail the phases of successful individual transformation, from Learning to Doing to Being, incorporating the latest evidence from fields across the behavioral sciences.

Five Ways to Improve Experiential Learning
Best practices for experiential learning programs are evolving. How can you initiate, or improve upon, this proven method? This session will address: What is experiential learning? When to employ it … and when not to:             o   Participants are proficient in their own area but need better context, execution experience             o   Cost of employee error is high (participants can’t ‘experiment’ on the job)             o   Colleagues need to get to know each other (global, siloed, departmentalized)             o   When to employ it -- Experiential learning generally takes time and is not optimal for simply teaching                   a single technical subject (how to do lease accounting, how to prevent computer hacking)

Welcome To The Skills Economy - How To Drive Organizational Change And Thrive In This New World Of Work, Where Skills Are The New Currency
The Fourth Industrial Revolution We’ve entered the Fourth Industrial Revolution, where cars drive themselves, robots are more than a sci-fi storyline, and the line separating biology and technology is increasingly fuzzy. These are not unrealistic statements. LYFT’s CEO projects no need for car ownership by 2025, and 3D DNA printing is already a reality.1 According to the World Economic Forum (WEF), this revolution is happening at an exponential pace, and the "speed of current breakthroughs has no historical precedent."2 For industries, organizations and employees alike, the Fourth Industrial Revolution offers tremendous benefits. However, within these very benefits lie the revolution’s most complicated — and sometimes frightening — challenges. While AI and robots aren’t making the human workforce obsolete, they are forcing employee roles to change. And that means organizations must begin to modify departments, staffing, training Click below to download this White paper.

Keynote Session to the Masters Series - Innovations in On-the-Job Training: 5 Minutes Per Day - How to Build a Workplace Learning Habit
People learn most of what they need to do their jobs by just doing their jobs. However, we don’t learn EVERYTHING we need to perform at our max from experience alone. Problems arise. Shortcuts develop. New skills are required for the next role. As organizations strive to do more with less and the pace of change continues to accelerate, time for additional training almost always goes by the wayside. As a result, organizations are slow to learn and become more easily disrupted. But what if training didn’t always require lengthy chunks of time people never have? What if the opportunity to develop fit snugly into 5-minute gaps in the average workday? What if training was a regular part of the day - like brushing your teeth?

eLearning Accessibility Challenges: When Closed Captions and Alt Text Aren't Enough
Accessibility is not a "nice to have." It's necessary to ensure that the materials we provide offer all learners equal access and the ability to learn without hindrance. Web accessibility standards like Section 508 and WCAG provide guidance and best practices, but in some cases, simply complying with the standards is not enough. Most current authoring tools offer ways to add closed captioning for the hearing impaired, or to set "tab order" and "alt text", two basic means for supporting assistive devices such as screen readers. But many designers and developers don't think beyond those basics and are unfamiliar with the issues that individuals with disabilities face, or the frustrations they experience.

What Does the Future Hold for Universal Design for Learning?
In the olden days, we would create courses that presented the content the stakeholders believed the learners needed to know. Things are different today. Learners want personalization and don’t want to waste time on things they don’t need.  Adaptive learning creates personalization through complex algorithms to provide acceleration and remediation, but not all content is suited for that. Could there be a way to modify our current one-size-fits-all approach and create courses that meet everyone’s needs? Leveraging the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL)  allows us to put processes in place to extend the model of ADA requirements and Section 508 compliance and not only provide  alternatives for visually, auditorily and physically challenged learners, but consider the needs of the experienced learner who may want to explore more, and support the ESL learner who may require scaffolding to be successful for course completion. UDL allows designers to develop adaptive courses that personalize the experience for each learner, allowing one design framework to satisfy many learner requirements.
