Experiential Learning 101: Challenge By Choice Trainers, facilitators and program leaders have a tough challenge: what's the best way to engage learners today? Experiential learning presents a highly unique growth opportunity for participants, as well as a tool that program leaders can put to work for them to achieve a specific outcome. See how one type of program -- Challenge By Choice -- combines the best methods of experiential learning and enables people of all capabilities to actively participate.
You'd think that the tool you use dictates a lot of what you can offer as part of your instructional design and you'd be right. However, some of the more engaging types of learning are based on the old-style choose-your-own-adventure games of yore. Trying to build such a branching scenario in Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline, or in Trivantis Lectora can be frustrating, however, and the same is true for most other authoring tools. Most people agree that these types of learning activities can be the most meaningful and help learners the most when on the job, so why aren't they used more?
The workplace has changed dramatically with the entrance of the millennial generation. By 2020, they will comprise 75% of the workforce--they have already surpassed Generation X as the largest generational group at work. There’s a lot of hoopla right now about the strengths and weaknesses of this generation, but one thing is clear: as baby boomer retirements continue (19,000 a day for the next decade), our first line leaders and team managers likely will be drawn from the millennial ranks.
Join Dr. Allen Partridge for this step by step workshop on using Text to Speech tools in Adobe Captivate 2017 to create computer generated audio for your courses. Whether you are using generated audio to create scratch narration for prototypes or using it as your primary voice talent for a project, this session will provide tips to get the most out of the text to speech tools in Adobe Captivate. Dr. Partridge will provide a step by step walk-through of the speech generation process, and demonstrate several techniques for customizing the output. Learn to overcome mispronunciations, odd emphasis and pronunciation problems with codes inside your slide recording notes. We will also provide an overview of the new customizable closed captions workflow and configuration. You will learn how to create responsive closed captions for every project, how to position them anywhere on the screen and how to provide them with your favorite colors and fonts.
A ten-year study of more than 100 companies showed that the number one cause of business failure is bad strategy. But, the reality is that only 3 out of every 10 managers are strategic. And when you consider that being able to set strategic direction is ten times more important to the perception of a leader’s ability than any other behavior, it’s critical that you master strategic thinking and planning.   In this webinar, you will learn a simple framework to transform strategy from a once-a-year dog-and-pony show that gets buried in a plan that never gets used to a laser-focused strategic mindset that you’ll use on a regular basis to grow your business.
Video is an important part of your eLearning design and development. In the context of today’s eLearning environment, you need to use video to engage your learning audience. The video production you do has to be at a level that will attract and retain your viewer’s eyes and minds in a world filled with all kinds of visual attractions. In the eLearning environment, you must be a video producer and director and understand that video is more than just holding your phone, although your phone is quite capable of taking great video. You need to think about the best way to navigate your way through a pretty complex process. And keep your costs as low as possible.

The learning landscape continues to evolve. In the 1990’s computer based training changed the traditional delivery model. Ever since, technology has pushed learning and development groups to develop and deliver materials in new and different ways. Recent technology changes have created a generation of digital natives who are impatient, networked and self-guided. As a result, formal learning is giving way to informal learning as a method of choice. The needs of learners and the content to fill learning needs is ever in flux making it difficult for learning leaders to throw a metaphorical dart and land on one set of content or one approach that will meet the needs of learners. It is still harder to measure the learning that occurs and determine whether it is helping the organization achieve business goals.
Everyone wants a learning game, but few stand ready with a big budget and game creation wizards. We all want fun, engaging, skill-building games, and there are many types of game frameworks to employ, yet not all are appropriate to every type of content. This webinar has two parts:
"Here we go again. Another compliance training." Oftentimes, this is the moan of many learners and workers. "Oh no. Long PowerPoints again."
The best way to beat the boredom in eLearning courses is to make them engaging and interactive. But adding learner interactivity in the courses can be time-consuming, and to some extent, challenging as well. These interactions also need to be relevant to the learning goals as well as help make the learning experience interesting.
Microlearning is a treatment for instruction. Microlearning can be used to deliver a wide variety of subject matter, and the primary decision guiding the implementation is the scope of content to be covered. Microlearning is meant to be easily consumable in short periods of time (e.g. less than 10 minutes). The microlearning solution should address one learning objective ONLY.
The nature of teamwork in today’s organizations is evolving. New research conducted by Training magazine and The Ken Blanchard Companies found that while people spend over half of their time working in teams, significant gaps exist between what people want and what they are experiencing in terms of clarity, accountability, and leadership practices.
In this webinar session, Online Learning Conference presenter Shannon Tipton will discuss  "How-To’s" for creating microlearning objects. Let’s get our creative hats on and create solutions that solve problems! Not every problem requires a course, micro or not. Most times, within a course - a job aid is screaming to get out. Enter, microlearning objects. Accessible, short bursts of critical information. Most commonly referred to as performance support tools or job aids. With all the new tools at hand, it’s easy to be confused about what to use and when. So many tools…so little time! Let’s get together to discover different tools and their applications. What tools are best for your audience and their needs? Time for the fun to begin.
Are Your Function Leaders Driving Business Growth? Called the "linchpin" of organizations, function leaders have arguably the greatest impact on your business performance. Yes, company executives determine the organization’s mission and direction, but functional managers control expenses, manage resources, make decisions about specific projects, and drive the success or failure of many strategic priorities. As your function leaders succeed, so too does your organization. Yet many function leaders are figuratively flying blind—unable to elevate their performance—due to severe organizational underinvestment in their development. A study shows that function leaders get less than 40% of the training and development invested in high potentials.
Microlearning is the trend of the moment, yet it is the most commonly misunderstood. This infographic from Shannon Tipton will help dispel two of the most common misunderstandings, and then give you 6 key markers to use as guidelines for ensuring microlearning success. After downloading the infographic, hear/watch Shannon explain in the recording of her webinar on the topic below.

Obviously, the sales team has a tremendous impact in the organization. If sales people don’t produce, the business is negatively impacted. And that impact is felt at every level of the organization. That means keeping the sales team engaged and productive.
SMEs are important sources of knowledge taught to others. Traditional SMEs are isolated and are not in synch with the immediacy of demand for their knowledge. They become roadblocks to rapid transfer of skills. In contrast, the modern SMEs are in constant motion and feeding the right knowledge as they are needed by learners and workers. They focus on the impact and value of their contributions to immediate results.
