Eclipses are events where one object is obscured by another, usually in astronomy when referring to a lunar eclipse (when the moon moves into Earth’s shadow) or a solar eclipse (when the moon is between the Sun and the Earth and casts a shadow on Earth).
Eclipses are relatively rare, and have been observed since antiquity and were often viewed as omens until they were scientifically explained with the advent of modern astronomy.
They can be dangerous to look at (especially solar eclipses), but using filters and protective eyewear, they can be photographed with great results:

One of the big trends of the recent few years has been flat web design, with little or no depth or layering of elements, with a simplistic approach that draws the eye to what design elements do exist, without distraction.
While the craze for flat design does seem to have died down a bit, there are still plenty of quality websites utilizing flat design very effectively.
Even if your whole website isn’t flat, it’s a good idea to utilize some of the principles of flat design, and draw inspiration from sites that use it effectively:

Infinium
Daniel Spatzek

VT Creative
Miceli Studios
Buchanan Chamberlin

Native tribes and other distinct social groups are often some of the strongest expressions of culture in a given land, because while they are generally a part of a country, they operate and identify separately from the actual government or country in many cases.
As such, to maintain their identity and culture expressions, natives and tribes tend to use dress, hairstyles, paint, colors, jewelry and music in unique ways that provide a clear sense of the collective.
For photographers, this offers a variety of unique and distinct opportunities for capturing cultural expression:

One of the principles of logo design is that it should look good in both color and in grayscale. This is because there are a variety of mediums on which logos are printed (packages, labels, banners, and more) and it’s hard to predict whether color printing will be available or viable for a given medium.
Some designers use this principle to design their logos in black and white only. The strong contrast leads to a visual impact that is especially effective for logos.
In this post we’ll look at some sharp examples of black and white logo designs:
Paradoxy
Aqua
Handy
Full Stacks
Food & Love
Kibbl
Scissor
Story Tellers
Black Sea Gold
Just Miniatures

The Earth has many beautiful places to visit, explore, and to photograph. Several different agencies have compiled lists of what they consider the wonders of the natural world, which include the Great Barrier Reef and the Grand Canyon.
Although there is some debate about what locations of the world should be included in a list of natural wonders (unlike the better known 7 Wonders of the Ancient World which is a more definite list), most people include large waterfalls, canyons, lakes, rivers and other locations.
These locations tend to be magnets for photographers, because the grand scale and natural beauty is worth capturing:

If you downloaded the latest version of Internet Explorer, you may have noticed that your fonts now look different. In fact, the default setting for font display is now ‘cleartype’. No, you’re not dreaming… Helvetica is a feature-length independent film about typography, graphic design and global visual culture. It looks at the proliferation of the Helvetica typeface (which will celebrate its 50th birthday in 2007) as part of a larger conversation about the way type affects our lives.

You don’t often see CSS and typography used in the same sentence, and for good reason. Traditional typography is a very subtle and beautiful form of design, with thousands of variations and choices. Unfortunately, with CSS that’s not quite the case. Don’t lose hope just yet, though. CSS can do more than you might think. [...]

A bitmap font is one that stores each glyph as an array of pixels (that is, a bitmap). It is less commonly known as a raster font. Bitmap fonts look best at their native pixel size. At non-native sizes, many text rendering systems perform nearest-neighbor resampling, introducing ugly jagged edges. More advanced systems perform anti-aliasing [...]

Fixedsys is actually the oldest font in Windows. The name means fixed system, although it is often pronounced "fixed size" because its glyphs are monospace or fixed-width. It was the system font in Windows 1.0 and 2.0. For Windows 3.x, the system font was changed to MS Sans Serif. In Windows 95, 98, and Windows [...]

The Futura font is a popular font that enjoyed its heyday during the 20th century. This simple geometric sans serif design was developed in the late 1920s by Paul Renner and is believed to have launched the beginning of the 20th century’s sans serif love affair.
