24 Shared A vast source of knowledge in today’s e-Learning is e-books. Electronic reading devices with e-ink display, such as Kindle, Nook, and others open files in .mobi, .epub, and .fb2 formats. Also, all modern e-book readers support .pdf format as well. They normally don’t support .ppt or .pptx files, or Flash or HTML5 webpages created with iSpring. This brings up the question, "How to convert PowerPoint presentations to .pdf or another e-book friendly format?"Read more »

6 Shared Recently, a large number of PowerPoint users experienced troubles with opening .pptx presentations that contained Flash objects due to an issue in the previous version of Flash Player (version 19.0.0.185). Thanks to Adobe’s high attention to this problem, this issue has been resolved and the fix is included in the latest official update (version 19.0.0.207). We recommend all MS PowerPoint users upgrade to the latest version of Flash Player and turn on Windows automatic updating if it was turned off before. However, the corrupted PowerPoint files can’t be restored with just an update of the Flash Player ActiveX component. Don’t worry, because we have a solution for that. Read more to learn how to update your Flash Player in different Windows versions.Read more »

47 Shared Have you ever heard the phrase "the Medium is the Message"? What Marshall McLuhan meant when he coined the phrase was that the message that you are trying to teach is influenced by the medium that contains it. Put another way, PowerPoint is the medium and the e-Learning is the message. The medium - it’s quality of presentation, mobility, responsiveness - all impact the effectiveness of e-Learning. If the medium - the PowerPoint presentation - isn’t very good, it will impact the training that a self-directed learner will get. And not in a good way!Read more »

22 Shared Need to find an interactive timeline maker to help you organize information into a linear structure? Timelines are linear organizers that help students to understand and illustrate the passage of large blocks of time. While the obvious application would be in a history class, teachers and educators from all disciplines and in all levels of education can benefit from teaching with timelines. 58 Shared The calendar reminder for a member of the sales team dings: "Work on e-Learning sales module 3" pops up on their phone. The employee sighs: they are thinking that they have so much else to do, so much else on their plate. They are thinking they can’t possibly take the time to work through another module right now. What would motivate them in a positive direction? Seeing is believing If a person sees the value in what they are doing, if they see direct, real-world impacts, and how the training relates to their career goals, they will find the time to participate. For example, sales are motivated by many factors including the need to succeed, to meet quotas and, obviously, the incentive of monetary reward. By creating a direct link between sales success and training, a self-directed learner will have more stake in participating in the process.Read more »

32 Shared Sometimes even the most engaging presentations are not interactive enough. The reason is that they follow a fixed path instead of meeting individual needs. In this article, we will show you how to create non-linear presentations that encourage audience participation. What is a non-linear presentation? Non-linear presentations allow you to navigate through material without having to follow a strict order. They give presenters the ability to jump over slides, depending on what information is most relevant in a certain situation. Non-linear PowerPoint presentations resemble a website, in that one slide can easily lead to another,  the way hyperlinks work on the Web. Glide through your content in any direction to present ideas in greater or lesser detail and avoid demonstrating irrelevant information.Read more »

18 Shared It's that time of the year again - year end reviews, bonuses and, for many companies, it's survey time. Employee Engagement Survey (EES), that is. What is an EES? An Employee Engagement Survey is designed to check in with a variety of staff that are occupied in different roles about how engaged they feel at work. "Engaged" refers to the ways and extent to which the employee is committed to the organization. The results give management a bird’s eye view of how the employees are feeling about their work environment, their roles, their peers, and their professional development opportunities. Having that baseline is important, particularly if the executives are envisioning making changes in the organization.Read more »

12 Shared Training in the workplace - whether through e-Learning, on the job or otherwise - is essential. There is often a gap between the skills young people acquire in school and those that they need every day to do a job. Some of those are soft skills, like effective communications. Others are hard skills, such as dealing with a particular piece of proprietary software. An employee, whether new or seasoned, can always improve, grow and change, but only with the full support of the employer, executive and/or management team. Read more »
