CC production on Act 3 is starting to wrap up. Just 4 more shots that need to be completed at this point. Most of the assets for those shots have been put in and colored and all that's left are some animated effects I have to draw in.In other words, Cosmic Chase production will be finished this week. In the remaining time between now and the release, I'll be doing tweaks to Act 1 to fix the pacing and overall flow to match it with the rest of the movie.Sonic X: Cosmic Chase will premiere August 9, 2010. Mark your calendars. The 7 year long epic journey will finally come to an end. I've learned a lot during this period and I'm glad it's almost over. Not having CC hanging over my head will be a wonderful feeling. There were times where I loved working on it and other times where I loathed it. It's been a long ride and I thank all of my fans for sticking by me.It feels real.8.9.10

Today, we announced the acquisition of Podio, an innovative collaborative work platform that empowers teams to work the way they want to work.
What’s Podio, you ask?
Podio enables small and medium-sized businesses and teams within larger organizations to manage all types of business processes and associated workflows using purpose-built apps and configurable workspaces. With Podio, teams can also modify apps or create their own, enabling workgroups to tailor their workflows and collaboration activities to their projects and the way they want to work.
Podio also integrates easily with traditional business solutions, plus data storage, online collaboration and content tools, including Dropbox, Box, Google Apps, Google Docs, Google Alerts, Evernote, Zendesk, FreshBooks, Instapaper and Campaign Monitor.
What does Podio bring to Citrix?
We’re very excited to have Podio join the Citrix team. It’s a natural fit with our collaboration line of business. Our cloud-based services power today’s way of working - enabling people to connect, share and collaborate regardless of location or device. Podio adds a collaborative work platform, a robust, free app market and the means to modify or create apps to support contemporary workflows. Along with this wonderful technology, Podio brings to Citrix a talented team whose values and passion for improving the way work is done in the cloud era line up perfectly with ours.
Plus, they have an office in Copenhagen that we can visit!
We’ll be sharing more about the Podio team in the days to come. We’ll also be revealing more of our plans for Podio at Citrix Synergy™ San Francisco, May 9-11, 2012.
To learn more about the acquisition, read the official press release.

In just 2 short weeks, Cosmic Chase will be making its long awaited and well-overdue premiere. I am very excited to be able to release this movie as it serves as a visual journal documenting the past 7 years of my life regarding the journey of learning, practicing, and improving my skills. The project was originally started to give me something to practice with in my spare time. The more I drew and animated, the better I became. I started in Flash MX2004 (v7) and will be ending with Flash CS4 (v10). My skills have greatly improved because of this project which has shown up in my schoolwork and the stuff I learned in school has been applied to CC.I won't deny it: there is a quality difference stemming from the beginning of the movie and lasts until the very end. This is not a bad thing. It was already light years ahead of Chaotic Battle when I started the first shot. Each shot improves upon the last, adding new elements and techniques to make it even better. It'd be kinda hard not to improve upon the formula over a span of 7 years.I've got 2 weeks left before showtime, where's CC at right now? I've been putting in 8-12 hour days tying up loose ends, making tweaks, compositing, editing, and even putting on my old developer's hat and doing some coding for movie functionality. I'm retiming Act 1 right now to speed up the pacing, Act 2 and 3 are pretty much complete, but I make changes as I see fit. I just need to finish timing and a single outstanding shot that I might actually redo from scratch *gasp*, do the credits and call it a wrap. No final file size or running time as of yet. It's a little over 10MB right now so I'll have to send my buddy Tom Fulp a little email over at Newgrounds. That's basically all the ranting I've got for now. Post production will likely wrap up by the end of this week and I'll have a finished product by this time next week.

Earlier today we shared some very exciting news with you about Citrix’s acquisition of Podio, an innovative, fast-growing cloud-based, collaborative work platform that empowers teams to build their own apps to manage just about any business process.
Podio is now part of the Online Services Division of Citrix and will be led by Tommy Ahlers, former Podio CEO, now Vice President, Social Collaboration. Podio is a fantastic addition to Citrix’s collaboration business, giving today’s mobile and distributed workforce an easy, secure and intrinsically social way to come together and work in teams.
To give you some insight into Podio’s offering, history and capable team of developers, designers and user advocates, we sat down with Tommy Ahlers for a one-on-one discussion.
Who is behind Podio?
Podio is a Danish startup with a new take on how everyday work gets done. We’re a team of 27 passionate people, revolutionizing the way people work, through social, customizable and easy-to-use software that fits the changing nature of work.
Like most startups, we started out small with just four guys in a cozy Copenhagen basement and an idea to build something completely different from anything else on the market. Jon Froda, Kasper Hulthin, Anders Pollas and founding developer Andreas Haugstrup Pedersen built and launched the product in private beta in 2009; I joined in August 2010 as CEO and investor and we launched publicly in March 2011.
What does Podio offer?
Podio is all about empowering people to work the way they want to. We offer a collaborative work platform that’s social at its core, where small and medium-sized businesses and teams within larger organizations can manage all types of business processes and associated workflows using purpose-built apps and configurable workspaces.
Because Podio is such a flexible tool, teams can determine and structure their preferred workflows and collaboration activities to best suit whatever they’re working on. All types of organizations use Podio, from Twitter, who uses Podio for corporate development, to Atlas Blue, a swimming pool maintenance company in Kuwait.
What makes Podio so different from existing collaboration tools?
What makes Podio really unique is our app-centric approach to productivity. Not only do we provide a social and collaborative environment for teams, we also offer hundreds of free ready-made apps to help users to manage everything from recruiting to product development and project management.
Podio’s innovative platform also enables teams to create their own tailored apps, using a simple but powerful app-builder. These apps live inside Podio’s social workspaces, which can be created for special teams, ad hoc projects or groups of internal and external workers in an organization. Importantly, Podio’s mobile apps bring the entire platform into the palm of your hand, to support the fast emerging mobile workforce.
What are the benefits of using Podio?
Besides cutting down internal email, which makes everyone happy, there are so many ways Podio can improve the way companies get work done. The first thing we usually hear from our customers is how communication and team connectivity start to change for the better, leading to increased productivity, streamlined processes and better overall structure around workflows. Rather than using a social tool where people simply "talk" about their work and deliverables, Podio users are actually completing work and managing all types of business processes using Podio’s apps and workspaces.
What we see every day in our user base is that Podio truly works for everyone in an organization; it doesn’t burden IT with another service to manage and administer; it puts people in control of their work tools rather than the other way around and it allows teams to be fast, agile, flexible and far more connected to each other’s work. It’s also really fun to use, delivering a meticulously well-designed (we’re a Danish company after all) consumer experience that modern workers now expect from their work tools.
What does becoming part of Citrix mean for Podio and its community?
We see an unmatched opportunity for Podio to reach as many people, teams and organizations as possible and bring the future of work to everyday workers, today. With the combined strengths of both companies, we now have the resources and a common strategic vision to take Podio to the next level.
What’s so fantastic about this development is that ultimately our community of customers and users win. We’ll be able to accelerate development, expand support services, tap existing business units within Citrix, exchange big ideas and implement our product roadmap and vision for growth much more aggressively. We going to keep everything that’s great about Podio in place, but seriously turn up the volume.

I'm sitting here typing this with a 100% completed version of Sonic X: Cosmic Chase on my desktop. The final stats clock in at 1600 hours of working on the project, 10.3MB file size with a running time of 8 minutes 20 seconds. Don't worry, it's a fast 8 minutes. For the rest of the time being, I'm working on optimizing the movie to make it run properly. I've encountered some slowdown issues that were not prevalent before and must be fixed. One of my goals this summer has been met and I'm very proud of that fact. The other 2 are still pending and will take the rest of August to complete, but they will be done in the next 30 days.Nine days to go. Who's excited?

Desktop video conferencing has finally hit the tipping point thanks to recent improvements in quality, cost, bandwidth and compatibility. Gone are the days of expensive, proprietary equipment anchored to a room or a big mobile cart. Now the necessary hardware and software are built into standard laptops or available on your desktop for cheap. In addition, smart detection of computer horsepower, bandwidth and mature compression means great quality without an overloaded Internet connection.
In the video below, I dispel these common myths about video conferencing:
Myth #1: Video conferencing is expensive and difficult to set up
Myth #2: Social/free video conferencing is usable for business
Myth #3: Video conferencing devours bandwidth and offers poor quality
IT has always been and will forever be a quickly changing industry. Improve your company by learning how to embrace these transformations and harness the power of new technology to break through old technology myths.

Last Sunday was Earth Day, and it got me thinking: Do people really understand the purpose of Earth Day? It’s not just about celebrating nature for a day. It’s about educating people to care for the Earth every day, all year long. It’s about promoting personal and organizational change to protect the environment.
Earth Day was started in 1970 as a "teach-in" to raise awareness of the need to preserve the environment and build support for legislative change. According to the official Earth Day website, "The first Earth Day led to the creation of the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the passage of the Clean Air, Clean Water, and Endangered Species Acts." Those are some pretty big changes.
Small changes can make a difference
But Earth Day promotes small changes that can make a difference as well. I liked how last week, the Huffington Post set daily challenges for people to practice Earth-friendly lifestyle changes. They asked people to do simple things like go meatless for a day, waste less power, paper and water, and reuse containers, clothing and other items.
So in the true spirit of Earth Day, I’d like to propose another change that people and organizations can make to help our environment: work from home.
Check the data
Data from the Telework Research Network show that working remotely just one day a week can make a significant environmental impact. A whole week of workshifting can make an even bigger difference. Green Technology World estimates that this year’s National Telework Week, held the week of March 16, "resulted in $5.5 million saved and 3,358 tons of pollutants removed." That’s what can happen when people get together to commit to change.
I’m pleased to note that when people use our GoToMyPC remote access tool to work from home, they aren’t just increasing productivity and flexibility, but also reducing their carbon footprint.
Want to see how much of a difference you can make? Check out our GoToCleanAir carbon calculator to learn how working remotely can help you preserve our environment and celebrate Earth Day all year long.

I run a very small company and have partnerships with a few other small (but bigger than mine) companies. Before this, I worked in the enterprise space, and was used to all the formalities and software that rises up to take the wiggle room out of experiences. As a recovering senior project manager for a wireless telecommunications company, I’ve really resisted project management software as long as possible. But I’ve come to realize that that the lack of a group workflow platform was impacting my collaboration.
A Glimpse into My Workflow
In my company, we do a lot of our interactions via email and text. We sometimes jump on GoToMeeting with HDFaces to get the visual component on the go, or sometimes, we’ll use Google Talk’s video, if we’re already into a chat session on that platform. We’re good at rapidly moving information back and forth between systems.
But what was missing was something a bit more static. We needed a project management solution that let us look at all our projects at a glance, if only to realize just how over-committed and busy I was making everyone. We’d tried a few, let a few accounts just flap in the breeze, and then went back to trying one we hadn’t looked at for a while.
And That’s How We Rediscovered Podio
Now, I know that I’m writing on behalf of Citrix, and that reading this, you’re like, "Oh jeez. Citrix just acquired Podio," but really, the two events weren’t related. We mentioned on a phone call with Citrix that we were just getting our project management software back in line to help with collaboration, and when they asked who we were using, we said Podio. And then they giggled and couldn’t tell us anything for a week or two until the news broke.
What we like about Podio is that it has the capability of being either very lightweight or very detailed. As a former project manager, the last thing I ever want to see is a dense Gantt chart full of linked deliverables and cascading commitment days anchored together. What we like is that we can build apps within it that let us choose our level of personal and professional neurosis.
Flow
What we found inside our company is that we like collaboration that flows. Throw on GoToMeeting with HDFaces? Sure! Sprawl across Twitter and onto the blog and off again? Check.
And MOBILE. If apps don’t have a mobile-friendly interface, at the very least, then they’re no go for us. We’re looking forward to the enhancement of even more apps that allow us to collaborate better while mobile. It doesn’t have to be smartphone-sized. I like the iPad scale just as much. But wow, if something doesn’t work in mobile and I have to wait until I pull out my laptop to do it, things aren’t going to happen.
Why the Future Is Getting Cooler and Cooler
I’m really enjoying collaboration technology’s advancement. Starting back in the 1990s, we used to have to jump through hoops. The other problem was that IT departments used to be very insistent that employees use specific software packages and the like (usually Microsoft, because of negotiated deals).
The current trend is something like IT-sumerism, for lack of a better word. You want an iPhone in an all-BlackBerry world? Well sure! It seems to be working better for folks that way. Sure, it’s a bit of a mess handling all the various maintenance and "extra parts" issues, but that’s just part of the mix these days for IT departments.
What I like, also, is that mobile interactions are getting more and more acceptable and simply fluid. It used to be a hassle to be that one guy "on the phone" while everyone else was online and watching the demo. With tablets, we’re smoothing out that experience nicely.
For me, for my business, I’m really coming to enjoy collaboration and portability in all my tools. Now that Podio is back in place as our project management tool, I’m looking forward to seeing what the integration of that tool into the Citrix platform looks like, too. (I know. I’ll have to wait a little while. The ink’s not even dry.)
What say you? How are you collaborating? What are your flows like?

Since the weight of Cosmic Chase has been lifted, I've been focusing on character design and storyboarding my new film. It's something I've never done before as I try to push and challenge myself with each new project. It's been in the works since May and since then a draft of the script has been written. I'm excited about it. It's titled "Robiety".Robiety is a story driven tale about a robotic society and the struggle of one robot to rebel against the corporation and discover happiness. This is a more mature film geared towards the older crowd, containing various intertwining themes and symbolism which is left up to the viewer to interpret. It's an open-ended story and you can take what you want from it.I've been studying and looking up different types of robots over the last month to solidify characters. So far I've got the main character and villain along with a few extras. It'll be a heavily stylized film and contain minimal action as it will focus on acting and emotion.Robiety will be completed in April 2011. I'll be posting more on production as I do it throughout the year. And now for something different. Here's some stuff I worked on last semester.Monster O's from Jeff Yandura on Vimeo.2010 Work Reel from Jeff Yandura on Vimeo.Hope you guys like!

Have you ever browsed the Citrix GoTo Developer Center? We created it in late 2011 as a resource for building integrations with the Citrix GoTo products. And now Citrix customers are beginning to see the fruits of this effort.
We have collaborated with key third-party software providers and developers to offer integrations between GoToTraining and your learning management systems (LMS). Here’s what happens when you use them: You save time, improve the efficiency of your learning processes and increase your productivity.
Two roads to integration
GoToTraining integrations are being developed using custom integrations and LMS-agnostic integrations.
Some LMS providers are building custom integrations with GoToTraining for use with their solution. One great example of this is the GoToTraining integration developed by Vitalect for their Techniq University LMS. This integration is tightly woven into the workflow and processes offered by Techniq University.
The LMS-agnostic approach is a new and, we think, unique approach to providing integrations developed by Intelladon. Intelladon Cloud Connector integrations leverage SCORM or AICC to transfer information between GoToTraining and virtually any LMS - at a fraction of the cost, time and effort of custom-built integrations.
Both the Vitalect Techniq University and Intelladon Cloud Connector integrations are available now. For more information about the Vitalect integration, please call Vitalect at +1 650 265 7542 or +1 510 468 4191, or email them at contact@vitalect.com. To learn more about the Intelladon Cloud Connector, please contact your Citrix Online sales representative or account manager.

Finished the storyboard last week and slapped an animatic together. Currently I'm reworking the animatic's timing and adding and redoing a few shots to make the pacing flow better. For the most part it's looking pretty good. Here we have the protagonist, SIMB (Standard Issue Maintenance Bot). He's a small bot in comparison to the others at the corporate factory and is a mindless worker drone until he takes matters into his own hands to change the way society works and thinks. The film relies heavily on real life pre-existing symbols and themes to create a comprehensive story about the inner workings of society.

Two months ago we added our awesome new HDFaces feature to our GoToMeeting app for iPad to coincide with Apple’s release of its third-generation iPad. It’s amazing how quickly people are adopting it, and now massive numbers of people are joining GoToMeeting sessions from their iPhone or iPad!
But we haven’t stopped tinkering with it: We figured out how to optimize the GoToMeeting app for the new iPad retina display. That means even clearer, more vibrant video quality no matter where you join the meeting from.
Check out this video of the GoToMeeting app for iPad to get a better idea of how it works.
We love the revolutionary ripple of GoToMeeting for iPad. Now that people can download the free app and join a face-to-face meeting - while also viewing the presenter’s screen - from anywhere, customers are finding even more ways and reasons to collaborate. Our customers are using HDFaces on the iPad to deliver patient care, show whiteboards to remote colleagues and customers, demonstrate moving physical objects in the field and much more.
Here’s a reminder of what GoToMeeting for iPad can do:
See up to 6 meeting participants with HDFaces
Join a GoToMeeting session in seconds by tapping a link in an email.
View presentations, mockups and reports - whatever the presenter shares on-screen.
Share HDFaces video from the front or back camera on the second- and third-generation iPad.
See who’s presenting, who’s talking and who else is attending.
Chat with individual attendees or the entire group.
Connect to audio through your Internet connection (WiFi or 3G/4G) or dial in over the phone.
Try it out today - the new GoToMeeting app for iPad app is available free from the App Store. If you’d like to start hosting GoToMeeting sessions from your Mac or PC, a free 30-day trial is available at www.gotomeeting.com.

Last week I set up robiety.com as the official site for the film. I hope to have it complete sometime early next year. I don't plan on devoting a whole lot of time to it right now as I am still developing content for the movie. The animatic is done for now; I'll go back another time and tweak some shots most likely, but my main focus at the moment is cranking out background layouts and designs. The final movie will be in 1080p HD, but for now these images are scaled down.More to come within the next few weeks.

I was bored in class yesterday and decided to start doing keys of some simple animations. I can only do so many layouts during a period of time until it gets stale. Starting a new production element is always a daunting task for me. As afraid I was to start animating, I jumped right in not worrying about failing because I can always fix it. I'll post when I'm satisfied with the assets.

A little bit of success can be a bad thing.
Success can provide "false positives" - indicators that you are doing the right things for growth when in fact you are only doing enough for your current growth. So, if you are happy with what you are achieving, then stick with it. However, if you believe that you can and should be growing faster, I have a couple of ideas for the next rungs you need to climb on your growth ladder.
The givens
For the sake of this post, let’s assume that you are already great at 3 keys to business success: product, passion and people. You do a good job in providing what you deliver to your customers. You care and invest with energy and commitment in your business. You have people who believe in the dream, even if it is only your immediate family and friends.
You are also probably good at resolving customer issues, solving mini-crises and meeting your obligations. This means long hours, hard work and a firefighter mentality.
To take the next steps in climbing your growth ladder, you are going to need to make some important business shifts.
Rung #1: Shift from what to why
Strong customer loyalty is driven by the why behind your business. What you do, the products and services you provide, puts you in the marketplace. How you deliver it, the quality of service and commitment, puts you in the upper tier of competitors. But why you do it is what creates raving fans who will try whatever you offer, tell others and stand in line to be first to have what you are introducing. The why separates Dell from Apple, Southwest from Delta and you from your competitors.
When you start a company, you focus on the business issues of products, services and pricing. That’s healthy and appropriate. To take your next big leap, you need to focus on your why.
Rung #2: Shift from all to few
When I was starting one of my first businesses, a mentor of mine posed this question: "Do you know what your most important job is in the first year of running your business? Surviving to your second year of business." For most companies, this survival instinct initially drives great behaviors, but over time, these same behaviors become problematic.
When you are in the desert, you drink the dirty water because you must. Similarly, when you are starting a business, you take almost every customer. Once you have established your business, however, you need to shift to a very rigorous process of evaluating potential clients, especially large ones.
Transactional accounts are not as potentially damaging to your company because of their relatively small size. As you grow, however, the most important business that you do is the business you do not do. Your next rung is to create a strategic map for hunting new business that fits your growth best.
Rung #3: Shift from heroes to systems
Most businesses have legends of incredible sacrifice, commitment and service as part of their cultural lore. But if you’re frequently celebrating your "firefighters," then you must be a company with lots of fires. One of the most important transitions a company can make is the creation of systems with cycles of improvement to eliminate problems with replicable success. There are 5 such key systems that a company needs to develop in order to move from this hero-dependent design to a system-strong approach to business growth.
I’ll be explaining these systems and more in my upcoming free webinar, "Your Next 3 Ladder Rungs to Double Your Business," sponsored by Citrix. I hope you will join me for it.

The past few weeks has been background layouts and animation keys. The movie is taking form and shaping up nicely. I've been working on a nushift.net redesign which will lend itself to robiety.com. While that's going on, I plan to do some color tests this weekend to see what style is best suited for the film.

I've been long past due for a progress update. This past week I've been designing and modeling the city of where the story takes place. It's not totally complete, but for most of the shots it will suffice.Welcome to Sector51.Still playing with render settings, so nothing is set in stone yet, but it will be toon shaded to fit with the movie. This is the first shot in which we meet our protagonist, SIMB. We learn of his role in the factory workplace, see how he is treated amongst other robots, and much more in this single shot.

These are some of the background layouts I've been working with, used to determine position and spacing for characters. Some are good, some are bad. Most of these are preliminary and will have detail painted in when I get around to that phase of production. As for now, they work for what I need them for and I hope to show more animation tests in the coming weeks.

Many organizations are seeking to add social support to their service portfolio since customers of today are often looking to company’s self-service sites (knowledge bases and support portals) and social sites for their customer service related issues. In many cases, especially for highly technical and interactive products, self-service isn’t enough. Technical customers need a deeper level of service which allows them to share their screens with technicians and support professionals. The ideal solution for businesses who sell and support technical products is the ability to connect with their users where they can combine the value of self-service with technical depth by escalating directly into a remote support session (full screen-sharing session) directly from self-service site or community.
GoToAssist, market leading remote support tool, now allows help requests to be initiated directly from community portals where end users congregate online. Users can transition from community, self-service support to full-service support, with customer-initiated support. This new feature allows one-click chat access and the ability to seamlessly escalate the chat session to full screen. Current and new customers have the ability to set up this new social support feature directly from their web UI. To learn how easy it is to set up, check out the quick start video.
At Synergy (May 9-11, 2012), the conference where mobile workstyles and cloud services meet, Citrix unveiled customer-initiated support, a new feature of their award-winning GoToAssist Remote Support cloud-based tool. In addition, they introduced an integration with Get Satisfaction, a leading customer engagement platform provider with 65,000 customer communities. The GoToAssist and Get Satisfaction integration shows how organizations enable their users (both customers and employees) to leverage communities for self-service with Get Satisfaction, but when needed, receive real-time support through chat or screen sharing with GoToAssist. In this way, organizations can now deliver a complete range of support services to their end users.
When self-service through your support community is not enough to resolve your customer’s issues, why not allow them to request live agent-based support directly from your community site using GoToAssist. Self-service support to full-service support with one-click - respond & resolve customer issues directly from your support community! GoToAssist Remote enables support organizations to deliver the most comprehensive social support!

Not quite, but sort of. Over Christmas vacation, I plan on getting some major things done for Robiety. In an effort to maintain motivation and keep production going, I will be posting what I have worked on during the day and show any progress that I've made.I have tried painting a few different backgrounds in different styles, trying to decide upon which fits the movie best. This is what I came up with for today:It's not complete but it's a step in the right direction. I'm happy with how it's looking right now and if I don't hate it tomorrow, then it's probably a keeper.
