Virtual instructor-led training (VILT) has become a foundational part of the modern learning mix. New research from Training magazine and Class shows that nearly all organizations now offer VILT (98% surveyed), and many rely on it for a significant portion of their overall training programs.

As VILT has become more established, learning teams are presented with a clear opportunity. Most organizations describe their VILT programs as moderately successful (78%)—evidence that live virtual training delivers real value. At the same time, only one in five organizations considers their programs very successful, underscoring how challenging it can be to consistently deliver high-quality live learning experiences when so much of the experience remains difficult to see.

Instructors often lead sessions with limited insight into what’s happening behind black screens. Breakout rooms—where active learning should thrive—are difficult to monitor in real time. After sessions end, critical learning data is either missing entirely or scattered across spreadsheets and disconnected systems, making it harder to understand engagement, improve design, or build on what’s working.

In this session, we’ll examine what the research reveals about where these visibility gaps occur before, during, and after live virtual training—from session setup and operations, to real-time participation and breakout activity, to post-session data and continuous improvement. We’ll also explore why many learning teams are looking beyond general-purpose meeting tools and toward purpose-built virtual classroom environments to create greater clarity without adding complexity.

You’ll leave with practical, actionable strategies to strengthen VILT by improving visibility, consistency, and confidence across the full live learning experience.
