Description

There’s no shortage of advice on how to design content that captures attention and sticks in memory—but how much of it is actually backed by brain science? Dr. Carmen Simon is a cognitive neuroscientist who studies exactly what kind of information resonates and is remembered by business audiences.

In this session, prepare to have a lot of conventional wisdom shattered as Dr. Simon explores how repetition, emotion, complexity, imagery, and so much more influence the effect our content and presentations have on our audience’s attention and memory.

Specifically, in this session, you will learn practical guidelines related to:
  • The flaw in a widely used communication technique that promises clarity but in fact leads to disengagement and forgettable content
  • Why the real problem isn’t attention span—it’s something far more telling
  • How a well-intended design habit when using metaphors may actually be making your message less memorable.
  • Why simplifying slides might have the opposite effect of what we think it does

About Carmen Simon, Ph.D.

Dr. Carmen Simon is a cognitive neuroscientist, Chief Science Officer at Corporate Visions, and founder of Enhancive, an agency that helps customers create memorable communication based on how the brain works. Her most popular books on customers’ attention and memory are called Impossible to Ignore and Made You Look.

Dr. Simon also teaches several courses at Stanford University on how to create messages on memory and decision science. After all, what’s the use of memory if people do nothing with it?
