The first comprehensive ISO standard on L&D metrics is complete and publication is expected in June. This standard provides guidance for the selection and reporting of 52 key L&D metrics for large organizations and 19 for small/medium -sized organizations. The standard also includes definitions and formulas for the recommended metrics as well as illustrations of the use of many of the metrics in simple tables.
The standard is ISO TS30437 Human resources management – Learning and development metrics. It is the culmination of more than two year’s work by ISO Technical Committee 260 Working Group 2 Metrics, of which Dave Vance is a member.

About David Vance

Dave teaches in the Ph.D. program at Bellevue University and in the executive education program for Chief Learning Officers at George Mason University. He also serves on the Metrics Working Group for the International Organization for Standardization and led the effort to create the first comprehensive standard for learning and development metrics published in 2023.
He is the author of The Business of Learning, now in its second edition, and co-author with Peggy Parskey of Measurement Demystified as well as the Field Guide to Measurement Demystified.
