Description

Designing learning is like "changing the conversation" in the minds of the learners. Paradigm shifts are necessary to effect behavioral changes.  There is a need to change what the learners believe in. Hence, existing stories require transformation so learners believe in the new stories you want them to buy into and own up to.

To illustrate: A learner may appear to learn that accepting gifts from vendors is not allowed as a policy. However, in his/her mind, he actually believes the opposite of the story, that, "it is OK to accept gifts provided you don't get caught."

It is unfortunate that many lessons focus on the details of the learning skills and knowledge, however, fail to change the beliefs and values that allow learners to change the stories in their mind. It is no wonder then, why our training does not impact performance and results.

In this webinar, Ray Jimenez will share three cases where lessons with good intentions come short of improving performance then show how to use a story-based approach to increase the reach of the lesson and positively impact performance.

Topics covered:

  • What is the essential difference between learning and performance change?
  • Why do many well-intentioned lessons fail to impact performance?
  • Where do skills and knowledge lessons and performance changes merge?
  • How do stories in the learning environment stifle learning?
  • When do stories empower learning to impact performance?
  • How do you apply the "Changing the Story Conversation" process?

Preview three case studies: an international fiber optics manufacturer - problem solving on manufacturing lines; a large energy company - on leadership and delegation; an agriculture and irrigation company - on reducing costs of water consumption.
