The first step in redesigning the classroom is to discard the notion that it has to be a classroom.

Appleasement. Don’t know of you can see that slide but it says "Appleasement: An appeasing of teacher intent to teach through the pleasing of teacher ego for the least possible resistance to learning." Appleasement is a made up word that was presented at the NTAC 2015 Ignite keynote session by Matt Pagano and Brad Paquette. Appleasement, they explained, is the situation that occurs in the classroom where students learn to put up with whatever the teacher is doing in the class whether it is good teaching or not, because it is easier to not put up a fight for better learning than not. Worksheet? No problem. Listen to your lecture? No problem. Can we do some problem based learning? Nope, I don’t have it in my playbook kid. Appleasement has to do with the teacher’s ego, where what the teacher is doing is all important, and needs of the students come in second. Does "appleasement" happen in your campus? How do you fix it if it does?
